Wellbeing at New Academy School

New Academy School places a high value on student wellbeing and recognizes its significant impact on their overall learning experience. To actively promote student wellbeing and improve their engagement and readiness to learn, the school organizes various wellbeing programs, activities and events.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program

SEL is a process by which students acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to cultivate healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, demonstrate empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible decisions. At NAS, SEL reinforces character building and compliments the pillar of character and morality taught in the Moral, Social and Cultural curriculum (MSC) is integrated into various subjects and during lessons.

Komodo Program

NAS also employs the Komodo Program, a real-time data tool, to assess and understand students’ wellbeing. This tool identifies students who may require psychosocial support, enabling early interventions and assistance. Through a comprehensive wellbeing support program, NAS empowers students to voice their concerns and equips them with the skills to become effective learners, build resilience, and navigate daily challenges.

Counselling at NAS

Counseling is another crucial component of NAS’s wellbeing support system. Counseling addresses students’ emotional, social, and academic concerns at different life stages. It focuses on enhancing students’ emotional and mental health, ultimately improving their sense of wellbeing and helping them overcome crisis. NAS offers both individual and group counseling sessions.

Individual Counseling: This one-on-one interactive process assists students in gaining a meaningful understanding of themselves and their environment. It also helps them clarify their goals and values, with the counselor tailoring the approach to meet each student’s unique needs.

Group Counseling: Group sessions provide psychosocial support, where a small group of students regularly convene to discuss problems under the guidance of a counselor. These sessions foster a trusting and supportive environment, promoting a sense of safety and camaraderie among group members.
